"Bad faith localizations" are attempts at changing the work in a way which intentionally disrupts its artistic intent.
* Politics (altering depictions of homophobia, changing crossdressing characters into transgender characters, female characters complaining about "objectification," etc.)
* Unnecessary ideological terminology (replacing random benign insults with "incel" or "bigot," changing "pervert" into "misogynist," etc.)
* Puritanism (erasing mentions of perverted stuff, getting rid of "icky" elements like underaged fanservice, etc.)
* Unnecessary cultural changes (4Kids Entertainment, changing names into Anglophone names, etc.)
* Censoring (editing material which may be offensive for the English market, etc.)
We consider localization to be an entirely neutral process which can either be good or bad. Some concepts are difficult to translate directly into English. For example, we view it entirely reasonable to translate the Japanese net-slang 察し to "vibe check," or 草 to "lol." We even view the infamous translation of キョドり into "sus" as a reasonable translation. However, many "localizers" use this as a pretense to damage the artistic intent of the work, and they have damaged the reputation of localization as a result.
We believe in the adage "never assume malice before stupidity." As such, we will not catalogue poor translations which are the result of someone fumbling the intent, only ones which the localizers intentionally, blatantly warped the meaning of for ulterior motives. In our localization showcases, we only fact-check and never provide our own opinions, so that this site may serve as an objective source for potential buyers.

We view much of the Anglosphere as practicing a "white savior" type of colonization. Their intersectional beliefs were born from white academics in western universities, yet when they see non-English media which does not follow their views on sex, gender, and race, they attempt to change it through localization or even demand its erasure in the original country.
Notice how 99 percent of these cases apply to Japanese culture. Rather than criticize and demand change from a country with flagrant human rights abuses like Saudi Arabia, they have designated a country with a rape rate of 1.02/100k as "problematic" and "being behind socially." The explanation for this is incredibly simple: Japan has Hello Kitty, Studio Ghibli, and Godzilla... but it also has sixteen-year-old girls with big breasts in anime. Japanese media has cool stuff in it which they like, but it also has stuff they don't, so they want to erase the latter instead of bearing with it. Saudi Arabia does not have cool stuff, so they do not care what happens there.
